Herring with Capers And Panko crumbs Stuffing

When did you eat fresh Herrings last ?? Autumn season is the Best time for Herring fishing. Big, fat and rich in healthy Omega 3. You simply do not eat enough of them.  Try them this week , Mona shared with us one of her old classic  family recipe. Super simple, delicious, great value to enjoy as a simple healthy nice mid week dinner. #eatmoreHerrings







  1. 2 Herrings fillets per serving ( Tick "fillet my fish" in our preparation methods box )
  2. Butter
  3. 75g Breadcrumbs (I used Panko)
  4. 1 tsp Mustard (or Mustard powder)
  5. 3 tbsp chopped Parsely
  6. zest of 1 Lemon, finely grated
  7. juice of 1/2 Lemon
  8. 1 tbsp Capers, chopped or whole (I left mine whole)
  9. 1 medium Onion (I used red)
  10. Salt & Pepper


  1. 1 Prepare your stuffing: mixing together the Breadcrumbs, Mustard, Parsley, Lemon zest & juice and Capers in a bowl.
  2. 2 Fry the onions in butter, add to the stuffing mix. Check the seasoning
  3. 3 Fill the Herring flaps with the mixture (divide evenly between the 4, don't worry if some stuffing will fall out again while you tie them). Hold the fillet together with toothpicks or tie with cooking strings.
  4. 4 Bake at the top of the oven @ 220 C for about 15 minutes, no need to turn them, smoother in butter to your liking. Once done remove the toothpicks serving (leave the string to make the dish look more sophisticated. Serve with brown bread, boiled potatoes... Enjoy!
